The average line in this situation is -5.2, and looking at the 180-190-9 league wide ATS performance,
this seems to accurately capture. Teams are 261-118 SU in this situation, winning by an average of
5.4 points.
The two teams that have performed the best against the spread are the Magic at 13-3 ATS and the
Spurs at 9-3 ATS. Both of these teams have been blowing out the opponents in this situation,
winning by an average of 16 ppg. The Bobcats are also 8-4 ATS in this situation for the year and have covered seven straight since Dec. 23.
The worst teams against the spread versus bad teams this year have been the Pacers at 2-8-1 ATS, the Rockets at 5-12 ATS and the Pistons at 2-7 ATS.
No team has been perfect straight up season-to-date in this situation, but the league’s elite have come close. The Cavaliers, Lakers, Spurs, Magic, and Suns all have only one loss against sub .300 teams. The Thunder, Grizzles, Timberwolves, and Clippers are the only teams sub .500 in these situations.
