The average line in this situation, and looking at the 276-258-12 league wide ATS performance, this seems to accurately capture. The notable exception is when a line of +11 or greater. Teams in this situation seem to concede defeat going 21-37-2 ATS and an embarrassing 1-59 SU with the lone win coming in double overtime.
What immediately jumps out when looking at the team data is the success of the top three teams in the NBA. The Mavericks, Spurs, and Pistons have the most wins in the NBA over this stretch and go 11-3, 9-2, and 8-2 ATS respectively in this situation.
The next tier of NBA teams in this situation is among the worst performers in this situation. Every team 6-10 in total wins over these is under .500 ATS in this situation with the Heat at 6-15, Celtics at 2-7 and Lakers at 2-6 being among the worst three plays.
Also of note is that bad teams fair particularly poorly in this situation. Teams under .300 for the season are 40-64-3 ATS.
