There’s one battle of division leaders on Monday’s NBA betting board as the Boston Celtics continue their road trip in Denver against the Northwest Division leading Nuggets. Both teams played yesterday with the Atlantic Division leaders setting a season-high in points in a 128-108 win at Phoenix while Denver was upset on the road at Milwaukee.
With Kevin Garnett still out for Boston and Denver’s Carmello Anthony listed as probable, the Celtics have opened as two-point road favorites in this one. The Nuggets have actually won the last two meetings between the teams, including 94-85 as 10-point underdogs in Beantown back in November, the Celtics’ first home loss of the season. These squads last met here in Denver last year in the game following the All-Star Break, a 124-118 Nuggets win.
While this is Boston’s fifth game of a six-game road swing, tonight will mark the Nuggets return home following an eight-game trip that saw the team go 5-3 SU/ATS. However, Denver has lost its last two games; yesterday’s aforementioned loss to Milwaukee and a blowout loss at Chicago on Friday. The Nuggets are 16-6 ATS this season coming off a SU loss.
Denver has not played at home since February 3rd, but has won 11 of its last 13 at the Pepsi Center to run its home record to 20-6 SU on the season. They have beaten Boston four straight times here.
Maybe Kevin Garnett’s injury doesn’t hinder the Celtics as much as is believed. They are 13-2 SU sans Garnett the last two years, including a perfect 4-0 this season. Playing without him for the first time since he injured his knee Thursday night in Utah, they were led by PG Rajon Rondo’s career high 32 points in Sunday’s win in Phoenix. Rondo also had 10 assists.
Take note that Boston is a perfect 18-0 SU this season when Rondo scores 18 or more points. He had just two points on 1 for 8 shooting in the season’s first meeting with the Nuggets.
