Ryan's Rant - November 8th
by John Ryan

Will Michigan State make it to six wins and bowl eligibility still having to play at Purdue and then playing at home versus Penn State? I don’t think so and quite frankly, Indiana and Iowa are more qualified and both can get to seven wins. Michigan State was once 4-0 and is again wasting a very fast start. Sure, last week’s loss to hated intrastate rival Michigan hurt, but there is far too much post game drama being dwelled on by HC Mark Dantonio, especially over the remarks made by Wolverines RB Hart.

"Sometimes you get your little brother excited when you're playing basketball, and you let him get the lead, and then you come back and take it back." Hart said. Once again, is this a huge issue to make after knowing that your team BLEW the game?

How about some unknown MLB player ratting out his teammates in the congressional steroid case? Would you, if you were a MLB player suddenly decide to VOLUNTARILY talk to a Congressman and rat out your “fraternity brothers”? For those of you, who have been in a college fraternity it begs the question: Would you rat out your fraternity brother that cheated on a test knowing that it would also lower your grade as a result? One thing is quite clear and I am not talking about the clear and the cream either. Whoever this player is will be distrusted and mocked and basically ignored as a form of human life whenever that player is in the locker room, or a baseball field, or at his kid’s Little League game.

Ok, back to what counts among my readers and that is making money. MSU is facing a road test at Purdue this Saturday and has been installed as a four-point dog. The total of 57 is what really matters here, as it implies that Purdue will score more than 28 points in this game. Note that MSU is 0-6 ATS when they allow 29 to 35 points over the last 3 seasons. Purdue has scored at least 31 points in all but three games - against Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State - all of whom have solid and strong defensive units.

There is no doubt in my mind either that MSU will be suffering the hangover effect from last week’s disappointing loss and also the continuous focus on that loss by the head coach. Note that Michigan State is 0-6 ATS after scoring three points or less in the first half of their last game over the last 2 seasons. Take Purdue
