NFL: Another "Dream Team" Put To Bed
by Carlo Campanella
Philadelphia was called a "Super Bowl destination" during the off-season as the Eagles were the busiest team making deals. They proclaimed QB Michael Vick their starter, then signed QB Vince Young from Tennessee, so they could trade QB Kevin Kolb to Arizona for CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. They also signed All-Pro free agent Nnamdi Asomugha and the Packers Super Bowl DT Cullen Jenkins. After all of these moves, the Eagles spent more than any other team and were listed by most Sports Books as the early Super Bowl favorites.
The Eagles dropped to 1-4 Sunday and are now in the basement of the NFC East after losing, 31-24, at Buffalo.
No one should be shocked, as we've seen this story many times before. Most recently in Washington and Dallas, where big-spending owners Daniel Snyder and Jerry Jones lured high priced free agents to their cities only to consistently miss the Playoffs. It's not exclusive to the NFL, as we watched LeBron James and Chris Bosh join Dwayne Wade in Miami only to lose in the Championship to Dallas- Another "Dream Team" put to bed. Time after time we've seen these over paid "guns for hire" move to a new team and disappoint.
Don't hold your breath expecting the Eagles to turn things around. Rather, expect these egos to start pointing fingers and the blame game begins- faulting everyone from the coach, owner and fellow teammates for why they're losing. How many times have we seen this from WRs Terrell Owens or Randy Moss? The team starts losing and they're like rats on a sinking ship. The Eagles have talent and will be favored for most of their remaining games this season. Smart bettors will jump off this sinking ship now and start betting against them!
