As we approach the NBA All-Star Break, I've assigned every NBA team a power rating based on their overall performance, schedule strength, final scores and other statistics. Public perception and other emotional factors and not included and one big win, or upset loss, does not affect a team’s rating as everyone has a bad game once in a while. These Power Ratings are used by Basketball handicappers and NBA Bettors in order to find line errors made by the Vegas oddsmakers. The larger the difference in the lines, the stronger the play, but any game with at least a 2 basket differential, or 4 points or more error is considered to have extremely strong NBA betting value.

How to use these power ratings:
Subtract the two teams power ratings from each other and then subtract -3 points to the home team for home court advantage. For example, if the LA Lakers are hosting the New Jersey Nets, the accurate line would be found by taking the LA Lakers 0 power rating and subtracting 3 points for home court advantage, or a power rating of -3. This number should then be subtracted by the Nets power rating of 6, making the Lakers a -9 point home favorite. Compare this line to the actual Vegas point spread to find if the line offers any NBA betting value.
