One sports writer called Devin Harris’s game-winning heave against Philadelphia Monday "the greatest half-court shot I’ve ever seen."

Anyone who had under 191.5 probably isn’t as thrilled about Harris’ heroics.

Here’s the YouTube video of Harris’ shot, which gave the Nets a 98-96 win as time expired.

Philly’s Andre Iguodala made the second of two free throws to put the Sixers up 96-95 with one second left.

Harris took an inbounds pass from Bobby Simmons and took one dribble up the sideline.

Iguodala managed to slap the ball out of Harris’ hand, which, according to Nets announcer Marv Albert, looked like a foul.

(What in the world was Iguodala doing? Can you imagine if would have been called for a foul, with Harris behind half-court?)

Somehow, Harris managed to regain control of the ball just long enough to flick a 43-footer toward the goal. Bang. Nets win 98-96, a total of 194.

Odds of an average Joe making a half-court shot are 25 to 1. That’s according the insurance companies that back half-time contests where fans shoot from half-court for prizes.

What’s your guess on what an NBA player shoots percentage-wise from half court? 20 percent? Better? Worse?

Now, that’s uncontested and nothing like Harris’ shot.

If re-enacted, what would the over/under be on the number of times Harris would make the same shot in 50 tries? One? Certainly, no more than two.

It was a miraculous shot, and a painful beat for under players.

Condolences go out to those who were on the wrong side of Harris’ killer.

3 OTHER HALF-COURT KILLERS

Rasheed’s Bad Deed, March 26, 2007

Denver appeared poised to steal a game in Detroit.

Leading 98-95 with 1.5 seconds remaining, the Nuggets had possession on the Pistons’ side of the floor and needed to simply inbound the ball to win the game.

Even if Detroit fouls and Denver makes both free throws, the game is staying under the 196 total.

Unfortunately for under players, Tayshaun Prince tipped Marcus Camby’s inbounds pass.

Rasheed Wallace grabbed the loose ball and fired a two-handed 60-footer, which banked in as time expired to force overtime.

Final score: Detroit 113, Denver 109

Duhon Does In UConn Backers, April 3, 2004

In the 2004 Final Four, UConn was a two-point favorite over Duke. The Huskies toyed with bettors’ emotions throughout the game, trailing by as much as 11 early in the second half.

Every time UConn challenged, Duke answered.

A pair of Chris Duhon free throws gave the Blue Devils a 75-67 lead with 3:28 left.

But UConn responded by scoring the game’s next 12 points. Emeka Okafor made one of two free throws with three seconds to give the Huskies a four-point lead, sealing a berth in the national championship game.

But anyone who began celebrating a Connecticut cover quickly regretted it.

After Okafor’s clinching free throw, Duhon took an inbounds pass near half court and banked in a running 40-footer time expired.

Final score: UConn 79, Duke 78

VCU’s 75-foot cover, February 20, 2009

Favored by 1.5 last Saturday, Nevada looked like it had secured a cover against Virginia Commonwealth.

The Wolf Pack had rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit and pulled ahead by four on Luke Babbitt’s free throw with 1.8 seconds left.

But VCU’s Joe Rodriguez banked in a 75-point 3-pointer as time expired.

Final Score: Nevada 71, VCU 70
